Social Enterprise 'Skill up' courses
As part of our commitment to support community, voluntary organisations and social enterprises in West Sussex we put together three free courses that were aimed at helping organisations perform more efficiently in the current financial climate
During March 2011 we held the three Skill-up courses for social enterprises in West Sussex. We had a great attendance and feedback for all the sessions was positive with attendees eager for similarly structured courses in the future.
Procurement and Collaborative working
Date & Location: 15th March, Richmond Room, Edes House, Chichester
Trainer: Caroline Plane, Larch Consulting
The session was intended to give a detailed overview of key aspects of procurement and commissioning for a community, voluntary organisation or social enterprise, including: aspects of working in a partnership, tiered Supply chains & subcontracting; joint & delivery partner bidding. The training included a section on the successful preparation of a public sector bid.

Making the most of your workforce: employees and volunteers
Date & Location: 21st March, Richmond Room, Edes House, Chichester
Trainer: Annabelle Carey, hrServices partnership
This training was aimed at managers who need to get the best from their staff and volunteers, it looked at motivation theory and practice; formal and informal performance management processes; using coaching techniques; developing staff and volunteers and the different approaches needed for managing and motivating volunteers and staff.

Embracing the concept of Enterprise
Date & Location: 30th March, Stanley room, Billingshurst village hall
Trainer: Phil Thompson - Advantage Consulting
The session aimed to focus attendees on two main areas; the need for a business plan with measurable goals and, how to go about achieving their stated objectives. The session took a commercial view of all activities and also highlighted the need for financial awareness.
